Country guide
Germany is attractive for engineering, computer science and pharmaceutical sciences because most public universities charge only a semester contribution rather than tuition, and the economy is built around exactly those industries. Indians are now the largest group of international students in the country, with a record 69,816 enrolled in the 2025/26 winter semester. Many master's programmes are taught in English, though learning German makes daily life and the job search considerably easier.
Mechanical and automotive engineering, computer science and data science, electrical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences and biotechnology, and management programmes at technical universities.
Most public universities charge a semester contribution of approximately ₹15,000–45,000 instead of tuition. Two exceptions apply to non-EU students: Baden-Württemberg charges €1,500 a semester, and the Technical University of Munich charges €2,000–6,000 a semester; private universities charge more. Visa applicants must show €11,904 for the first year, usually in a blocked account that releases €992 a month; the amount follows the German student-aid (BAföG) rate and changes when that rate does. Admission usually depends on a close match between your bachelor's curriculum and the master's programme. Figures are indicative and verified in counselling.
Indian applicants first need an APS certificate from the Academic Evaluation Centre at the German Embassy in New Delhi, which verifies academic records; universities and the visa process require it. The national study visa is then applied for with the admission letter and proof of funds. Students may work 140 full days or 280 half days a year. After graduating, they can apply for a residence permit of up to 18 months to find a job that matches their qualification. AceLogic provides documentation guidance; visa decisions rest with the German missions.
