Sathyabama was founded as an engineering college in 1987 and became a deemed university in 2001. The campus at Jeppiaar Nagar on Rajiv Gandhi Salai, the Old Mahabalipuram Road, places it in the middle of Chennai's IT corridor, with hostels and research centres on site.
B.E. and B.Tech programmes cover computer science and its specialisations, information technology, electronics and communication, mechanical, civil, biotechnology and biomedical engineering, with M.E. and M.Tech at postgraduate level. Other schools offer BBA, B.Com, MBA, law, architecture, pharmacy, nursing and allied health. Admission to engineering is through the institute's own entrance examination (SAEEE) and merit routes as applicable.
